Frequently asked questions

Acoustic curtains — what you should know

What does a made-to-measure acoustic curtain cost? +

There is no list price — it depends on the size of the room, the quality and quantity of fabric and the pleating. I look at the room, assess the hard surfaces and work out the quote for you. As a guide, I will tell you during the visit how much fabric your room needs — that is what the price hangs on.

How do I wash an acoustic curtain? +

Acoustic curtains can be taken down and machine washed — on a delicate cycle at 30 degrees, without fabric softener and without spinning. Hung up damp, the heavy fabric pulls itself back into shape. What each quality can take is stated on the label — if in doubt, just ask.

Take it down, wash at 30 degrees on a delicate cycle without fabric softener, do not spin — hanging it up damp is enough.

How long is the warranty? +

On fabric and making-up there are 2 years. Should a defect appear within that time, we remedy it free of charge.

What happens if something isn’t right? +

If anything does not match the quote, we come free of charge, inspect it and replace it. No discussion.

How much does a curtain do for the acoustics? +

Hard surfaces such as glass, concrete and parquet reflect sound — the room echoes. A heavy, densely woven curtain absorbs part of that sound energy and shortens the reverberation time without any building work. How much it achieves depends on the fabric, the quantity and the room — I look at that on site.

Absorbs sound instead of reflecting it — how much depends on the fabric, the quantity and the room.

How much fabric does it take for beautiful folds? +

That depends on the type of pleat. For acoustics, fabric fullness is what counts: cartridge or wave folds with double the fabric width absorb considerably more than a flat-hanging panel. With folds the same room costs more — but the effect is noticeably greater.

More folds, more surface, more effect — hanging flat does the least for acoustics.

Does a tall window cost more? +

No. The price is calculated by the quantity of fabric: more surface and more folds absorb more sound — and cost accordingly more. Floor-to-ceiling panels work best acoustically because they bring the largest surface.

How long does delivery take? +

After the quote is approved, making-up usually takes a few weeks; the exact timeframe is stated in the quote. We then arrange the installation date with you.

Quiet you can hear +

Hard surfaces such as glass, concrete and parquet reflect sound — rooms echo, conversations become tiring and concentration suffers. Heavy, sound-absorbing curtains absorb part of that sound energy and shorten the reverberation time without the room having to be rebuilt. How much sound a curtain absorbs +

The sound absorption of textile fabrics is measured to a standard. How effective a curtain is depends mainly on fabric weight, amount of pleating and distance from the wall — the fuller the fabric hangs, the more sound is absorbed.
