Closed horizontally the slats are opaque, so that you are undisturbed in the evening. Via the slat angle you dose the light steplessly in the morning, from darkness to soft grazing light.
Honestly: a venetian blind does not black out to 100 % — a fine seam of light remains at the slat edges. Those who are very light-sensitive or work shifts therefore combine the venetian blind with a blackout curtain or a guided roller blind. The venetian blind then handles the fine light control by day, the second layer the darkness at night.
Practical is the compact design: mounted inside the reveal the venetian blind takes up hardly any space, leaves the sill free and even fits small bedrooms. With clamp brackets, mounting works on many windows entirely without drilling — ideal in rented flats.
