Frequently asked questions about conservatory pleated blinds

Does a pleated blind help against the heat in a conservatory?

Yes, considerably: the fabric catches the sun before it heats the room. For strong sun I recommend fabrics with a reflective backing.

Do sloping and triangular windows work too?

Yes — tensioned pleated blinds are also available for slopes, gables and special shapes. I measure every shape precisely on site.

Does the pleated blind also hold on the conservatory skylight?

Yes, tensioned and guided it holds in any position — overhead and on a slope too.

Pleated blind pulled down from the top: the upper part of the window is shaded, the view stays clear below.
From the topShaded at the top, clear view below.
Pleated blind raised from the bottom: the lower part of the window is opaque, daylight comes in above.
From the bottomOpaque at the bottom, full daylight above.

Why a pleated blind belongs in a conservatory +

Large glazed areas heat up strongly in summer and cool down quickly in winter. A honeycomb pleated blind counteracts this — on sloping roof surfaces and special shapes too. The Honeycomb structure of two layers of fabric with a cushion of air between them insulates noticeably — the conservatory stays cooler in summer and holds the warmth in during winter. As a tensioned version the pleated blind can be Triangular, trapezoidal and other special shapes cut to shape — typical for conservatory roofs and gable windows. Details: Pleated blind for the skylight.

How to plan a pleated blind for the conservatory +

The starting point is the The physics of glass: large, unprotected glazed areas heat up strongly in the sun and cool down just as quickly at night or in winter. A honeycomb pleated blind with two layers of fabric and an air chamber between them counteracts this swing — noticeable in the room temperature. Roof pitch: many conservatories have sloping glazed surfaces in the roof or gable. As a tensioned version the pleated blind can be cut to triangular, trapezoidal and other special shapes and stays taut in the frame even on a slope — much like on classic skylights. How the surface is divided: for continuous glazed fronts we fit several units side by side. That way each section of window can be controlled on its own, depending on where the sun is or where you need privacy.

Pleated blinds for the conservatory — what you should know +

Yes, especially the Honeycomb blind: the double-walled air chamber insulates against summer heat and winter cold — at large, unprotected glazed areas the effect is particularly clear.
