The three mounting methods at a glance
Every pleated blind is mounted on the window sash, in the frame, on the wall or on the ceiling. The exact method is determined by the type of fitting:

Screw mounting — the classic solution
The rails are firmly screwed into the frame, the reveal, the wall or the ceiling. This is the most stable variant and suits large window surfaces and all window types — even where a clamp bracket wouldn't hold securely.
Clamp brackets — without a single hole
Clamp brackets sit directly on the window sash and hold purely by clamping force. No drilling, no wall plugs, no marks left when you move out — which is why they're the first choice in rented flats. Tensioned — for skylights and sloped windows
With a tensioned pleated blind, both rails run in side guide rails — top and bottom. This keeps the fabric taut, even when installed at an angle, so it doesn't sag forward. For roof windows this is practically the only sensible solution; for vertical windows it's optional and mainly provides an especially clean, gap-free finish against the frame.
Free-hanging or tensioned?
A free-hanging pleated blind (guided at the top only, or with a handle rail) is easier to mount and is entirely sufficient for vertical standard windows. Tensioning pays off as soon as wind, an angled position or an especially precise light seal come into play.
