The rule of thumb by window size

The simplest decision guide is the Window size. Vertical blinds play to their strength on wide window fronts and sliding doors, because they slide sideways into a narrow package. A Roller blind is more compact, calmer and cosier at individual, normal-sized windows.

Light control: turn or raise

The second big difference is the operation. Vertical blinds can be turned and steplessly control glare and view – the room stays bright while direct sun is blocked out. A roller blind only moves up and down: it is either open or darkens the room, there is barely an in-between.

Floor-to-ceiling windows and doors

At sliding doors and floor-to-ceiling windows, the slats clearly win out: they slide to the side and leave the passage completely clear. A floor-length roller blind would have to be pulled all the way up every time for that – cumbersome in everyday use.

Look and how it affects the room

Visually, the two pull in different directions. A roller blind looks compact and calm and blends in unobtrusively with living spaces.
