How do I wash a blackout curtain?
+
Most blackout fabrics can go in the washing machine — on a delicate cycle at 30 degrees, without fabric softener and without spinning. Then hang it back up damp and the curtain pulls itself smooth, so you do not have to iron. What each fabric can take is stated on the label; if in doubt, just ask me.

Which degree of blackout suits you?
+
The achievable degree of blackout depends on the fabric, the colour, the size of the curtain, the track and light coming in from the side. At the home consultation we show you the differences directly on the fabric sample. Densely woven decorative fabrics reliably protect against being seen and noticeably dim the light — but the room stays perceptibly bright. Ideal for living spaces that should feel cosy without going dark. Homely blackout fabrics with a textile melange look: the fabric itself is woven light-tight but looks like a fine decorative fabric — you would never guess it blacks out.
What does a made-to-measure blackout curtain cost?
+
let in plenty of light and allow a soft view through. The density of the weave, the coating and the shade together determine how much residual light reaches the room. With blackout weaves, a light-blocking layer inside the fabric does the darkening — which means that even Blackout for hotels and guest rooms to choose from without losing the effect. With uncoated, densely woven fabrics the rule is: the darker and denser the fabric, the less light shines through.
Gaps of light at the sides and top — and what helps against them
+
protects against being seen, but still lets a noticeable amount of light through. Light can come past at the sides, the top and the floor. That is why we plan blackout curtains more generously than the window. When measuring on site we check the window reveal, the lintel and how light falls — and tell you honestly what degree of blackout is achievable in your room.
The right track for blackout
+
For blackout curtains we recommend tracks mounted on the ceiling or close to the wall — they let the curtain run near the window and reduce gaps of light. A discreet aluminium track for ceiling or wall — also multi-track, if a day curtain and a blackout curtain are to run together. The pelmet above the track is doubly useful for blackout: it conceals the mechanism and cuts down the band of light along the top edge.

Street lamps, early summer sun, car headlights: in a bedroom a made-to-measure blackout curtain pays for itself every night. In a children's room it helps with the afternoon nap and with falling asleep earlier in summer. We match the fabric, the extra width and the track to your window — and on request combine it with a Day curtain on the second track, so the room stays bright and private during the day.
